Chapel Hill/Carrboro Working Groups
The injustices in our society are manifold, and this list of working groups is limited more by organizational capacity than passion. If you care about housing justice, labor issues, racial justice, LGBTQ rights, or any other issues of inequity, you will probably find like-minded people interested in forming a working group.
Eco-Socialism
In pursuit of its long-term goal of shutting down UNC's coal-powered cogeneration plant, the ecosocialist working group is working on developing educational materials, building relationships with coallition partners, direct action training, and researching governance and operations at UNC. More organizers are needed to help with all of these tasks, so please reach out if you're interested in volunteering!
Healthcare
DSA Chapelboro has joined with DSA chapters across the country in a massive pressure campaign to mount support for HR 1384, the House Medicare for All bill (which is now supported by a majority of Democratic representatives, due in no small part to the DSA’s efforts). As part of that campaign, we are pressuring David Price to support this bill.
Political education is one of the most vital tasks of a socialist organization — we all have a good intuition for the things that are wrong, but good organizing cannot come from intuition alone. The political education working group conducts trainings and lectures to help our members discover and learn from the rich history of struggle against capitalism. Past topics have included carceral capitalism, socialist feminism, the early history of the soviet union, and practical workplace organizing. If you’re new to the DSA and not sure how best to help out, attend one of our events! The political education working group will conduct meetings online while large social gatherings remain unsafe. For invitations to these meetings email dsa dot chapelboro at gmail dot com.

Design Committee
The design committee is Chapelboro DSA based committee that serves the chapter and other local activists. From flyers and handouts to logos and canvassing materials the design committee creates digital and print media in coordination with other working groups and branch projects. If you need graphic design done for your DSA or local activist project contact us and we will see how we can help. We are always seeking more designers/artist as well as people who can help create content for our materials.
We are in the beginning stages of organizing a mutual aid working group for projects directly assisting our community. This working group is growing out of our chapter’s work with Mutual Aid Carrboro to help workers affected by the COVID-19 crisis.
Mutual Aid
The electoral politics working group is in a fledgling state, but we are interested in promoting socialist candidates at the local and county level.
